Golfer's Elbow

What is Golfer's Elbow?

Golfer’s elbow, or medial epicondylitis, is irritation to the muscles and tendons that attach to the inside of the elbow. It is typically caused by repetitive movements of the forearm and wrist and can be related to a number of different sports and work tasks, not just golfing! Symptoms include pain at the inside of the elbow, especially with actions like gripping and opening things like doorknobs or jars. Treating golfer’s elbow will include a combination of rest, hands on treatment to relieve the muscle tightness and pain, intramuscular stimulation (IMS) with needles, and specific stretches and exercises to strengthen the muscles to return to pain free function. You don’t have to keep living with pain. Call 403-982-5600 today to find out how our therapists can help you gain your Momentum back!

Lingering Injuries

Can Physical Therapy Help Old Injuries?

Absolutely!  Physical therapy is an extremely effective way to help manage and resolve chronic, or old, injuries.  Chronic injuries are usually the result of incomplete healing during the acute, or new, injury stages.  If left untreated, individuals tend to develop shortened muscles, restricted joints, and areas of weakness.  These deficiencies lead to pain and decreased function – thus limiting your ability to perform daily activities such as golf, hike, lift objects, sit, and sleep.

If you are dealing with a chronic injury, a physical therapist will take a detailed history of your injury episode, perform a biomechanical assessment of your injury site, and develop a plan to help resolve your pain.  This plan will be tailored to your specific needs and involve elements of hands on treatment paired with proper corrective exercises to maximize your recovery.  If you are dealing with an old, lingering injury, call MOMENTUM Physical Therapy today to find out how we can keep you moving!

Tennis Elbow

What is Tennis Elbow?

Tennis elbow, or lateral epicondylitis, is the irritation of the muscles and tendons that start on the outside of the elbow. These muscles can help bend the elbow and extend the wrist and fingers. Tennis elbow is caused by repetitive movement or trauma and is characterized by sharp elbow pain with arm movement and a constant elbow ache at rest. Recovery from a tennis elbow occurs in two stages. First, healing of the injured tissue must be initiated. This is effectively managed by manual therapies including intramuscular stimulation (IMS), acupuncture, massage, and progressive stretching. Once healing has begun, tennis elbow will only fully recover if proper exercises are performed. Specific exercises allow the muscles and tendons to rebuild to a point where pain is eliminated and full function returns. If you are having pain on the outside of your elbow, our team of talented Physical Therapists at MOMENTUM Physical Therapy would be happy to help you out. Call 403-982-5600 today to find out how we can help you gain your Momentum back!

Is a Referral Necessary?

Do I need a referral to see a physiotherapist?

No. Physiotherapists are a regulated, primary care health provider which means that you do not require a referral from a physician to see a physiotherapist. This means that we are able to get you into our schedule as soon as you find yourself injured or hurting. However, it is important to note that some health insurance policies still require a physician's referral before they will reimburse you for your treatments. Please consult your insurance provider prior to treatment to find out what your policy states and to see if you need a physician's referral for your coverage to be active. If you are living in pain, there is no better time than now to seek help! Let us help you start off the new year healthy and pain-free! Call MOMENTUM Physical Therapy today to book your appointment. 403-982-5600.
